About EBZ

Bruce Patten and his friend, Bob LeBlanc, built the Earth Base Zero website over a period of almost 15 years, filling the pages with flying adventures, dome-building stories, genealogy resources, and a variety of other topics of interest to Bruce and his wife, Cheryl. All stories on this site are “as is” from Bruce’s original website published by Bob LeBlanc under the domain earthbasezero.net, reconfigured and reimagined on a new website platform at earthbasezero.me several months after Bruce’s untimely death on October 12, 2021. A full obituary for Bruce Kenneth Patten was published by CentralMaine.com.

Early history of this website as told by Bob LeBlanc.

On a winter day in 2008 Bruce (who is a pilot) emailed me the story of his winter flight and later he emailed 2 photos to go with it. I took the email which was in the form of a story and the 2 photos and made a web page on one of my web sites.

Bruce liked the story and decided he wanted his own web site.

Plan ‘A’

Bruce wanted to use the web space on his ISP provider. After a start of the web site and a few pages along with more and more things that Bruce and his wife wanted on the site it came evident that there was not enough room. On to plan ‘B’.

Plan ‘B’

The next step was to get Bruce signed up with a web hosting company. I got him signed up at the same place that I have two web sites.

Now the work began. First was the Flying Stories section that expanded to Aviation and Flying Stories came under that along with Projects and more.

While still working on Aviation we started on the Dome section and shortly after we started on Cheryl’s sections.
